I love how every Cake Smash Session is so totally different from one other. Yeah sure, there’s always a one year old and a cake… but the similarities stop there. Every kid is so uniquely different from one another it makes their cake smash special to them! Diego took a minute to warm up to me and the camera, but of course, Daddy had the magic to make his little boy smile 🙂

I always capture solo shots of these one-year-olds, while they’re all clean and before the real smashing begins. Diego was so cute and had a sweet hat to top of his “look”. I loved getting some of his adorable smiles before the cake came. Often the cake can be confusing to these little ones… sometimes they like getting messy, sometimes they don’t… sometimes they like the taste of sweet cake/frosting… sometimes they don’t. I always prepare Mom’s and Dad’s that we never know how they will react in the moment, but no matter what, we always get cute photos!

Diego was a little unsure and first, but had a little fun getting messy and tasting the cake, although I think it was too sweet for him! After he had his fun for a few minutes and realized he was totally covered with frosting from head to toe, he decide he was done! Which was the perfect amount of time to capture all the different fun stages of a Cake Smash. Check out this handsome boy!
