Scarlett was the oldest Newborn I had the pleasure of photographing in my studio in Indian Trail so far. By the time I got my hands on this sweet little girl she was just over 10 weeks old!
Mama had hired another photographer to capture some photos of Scarlett and their family together when they first adopted their baby girl. Unfortunately Mama did not get the images she was hoping to get from that session. There are many photographers out there who are amazing photographers, but they are not trained newborn photographers. Photographing newborns takes a lot of patience and skill to know how to pose and safely handle these tiny humans as well as what the best way to capture them as far as angles, position, and lighting. I know how hard it is to find the perfect “photographer-fit” when looking for your newborn photographer. Things like portfolio images, package pricing, and personal connection all plays a part – but I always encourage Mama’s to make sure they hire a professional newborn photographer and not miss out on any moments of these tiny babies before they grow up!
When Scarlett’s Mama, Naomi, first reached out I knew I wanted to be able to capture these newborn style photos for her. Although I was nervous about being able to capture everything up to Mom’s expectations, especially with Scarlett being an “older” newborn at 2.5 months old. But everything went amazing. Scarlett wasn’t very sleepy during our session (even though Mama followed my instructions/prep guide to try and keep her awake prior to our session so we had a higher chance of her being sleepy). She was still happy to be wrapped and posed and eventually fell asleep for a short cat nap. Mama got both sleepy, posed studio shots of her baby girl as well as some beautiful open eye shots, which is one of the beautiful thing about photographing older newborns.
And then of course her 4 big brothers came in… and the amount of love they had for their new sister was so pure – it made my job easy to photograph them all together. I just love everything about this session.
Right from the start she was obsessed with my camera and stared right into my lens which I LOVED!
She fell asleep just long enough to get one round of shots in the flower bucket and one round wrapped on the beanbag. Then woke up when we tried to get her posed nude.
Seriously, that little look is just so cute! Purple is one of my all time favorite colors to use for little girls. It was so fun getting to use some of my purple stuff for this adorable baby girl!
Mama really wanted to capture a few shots with this headpiece and tutu she brought in. Was so happy Scarlett was happy to pose with it!
Baby yawns and baby rolls are the best! Scarlette was not yet 11lbs at 2.5 months old when she came to my studio, which is still not as big as my biggest newborn I’ve photographed!
How perfect is this family of 7?! I was worried about getting everyone to corporate for a photo but they were all great!
This is one of my all time favorite shots of the session. These brothers were obsessed with their new baby sister and were fighting over who got to hold her. I love getting to capture their sweetness together.
Those lashes.
I am just so happy I got to capture this beautiful family and this gorgeous little girl.
