Creating a memorable newborn photography session goes way beyond just capturing beautiful pictures, it’s about making the entire experience special and personal for the family. I think that the best sessions are ones where everyone (especially baby) feels relaxed, authentic and infused with meaning. Sometimes mamas aren’t feeling their best so soon after bringing their little ones Earthside, but having mom and dad involved, even just for tiny hand holds, reinforces the bond and creates a special moment to share for years to come through these photos! Sometimes parents ask to bring items or use props that represent something special – a family heirloom, handknit blanket, jewelry or small toy that reflects their unique story. Choosing the right colors is important as well – they can set the atmosphere, match the home or nursery, be soft to let baby shine or be bold and tie to a family color. I provide some tips before our session to help guide parents on feeding and sleeping to try to help baby be as soothed as possible during the session.
